Oakville

Kerr Village

The house where we roast. Our first Canadian café, and still the only one with the roaster in the basement — every bean served at all six locations starts here.

Getting here

Parking
Free customer parking behind the café, room for about ten cars. Street parking on Kerr is metered, so it's worth heading round the back first.
Wi-Fi
Free, no time limit. The password is on the chalk board on the main floor.
Water
Free, self-serve.
Washroom
One, on the upper floor.
Accessibility
We'd rather be upfront: the building isn't accessible. It's a converted house, there are steps at both the front and back entrances, and the only washroom is upstairs. Our Upper Middle café is step-free with accessible washrooms.

A converted house, and it still feels like one

Main floor

The counter, two bench booths and a few tables. Good for a coffee with someone, or a quick one on your way past.

Upstairs

Where people settle in. Plush armchairs, a corner to read in, and a long table seating eight — one of the few rooms in Kerr Village that takes a group without booking.

Front patio

Seven tables under two large umbrellas, facing Kerr Street. Open when the weather allows.

Back patio

Three tables with proper outdoor armchairs, bordered by planters, beside the car park. It looks onto the lot rather than anything scenic, but it's away from the street and a few steps from your car.

Roasted downstairs

We source, roast and serve our own coffee. There is no broker, no importer and no third-party roaster in between — which is why we can tell you which farm your coffee came from, and what day it was roasted.

Green beans come from family-owned farms in the mountains outside Bogotá and are roasted here on Kerr Street, five kilograms at a time. Bags on our shelves were roasted within the last one to five days. Online orders are roasted the previous weekday before they ship.

For comparison, supermarket coffee is often months past its roast date, and usually doesn't carry one at all.

Light Medium Dark
Light, medium and dark start from the same beans and end up as different coffees. Each is its own roasting profile, with its own starting temperature, rate of climb and airflow, and the roaster working the burners the whole way through. A dark roast runs around twenty minutes; the lighter ones come out sooner and cooler.

Straight out of the drum and onto the cooling tray, where the arm keeps turning so the heat leaves the whole batch evenly. It is also the clearest look at a roast anyone gets all day.

No grinder at home? Tell us how you brew.

We'll grind any bag to match your brewing method, free, while you wait. Espresso machine, moka pot, drip, pour over, French press — each one needs a different grind, and pre-ground supermarket coffee is set to a single middle setting that suits drip and very little else.

If your coffee at home has never tasted the way it does here, this is almost always the reason. It's the first thing we ask about.

Where the coffee comes from

In the mountains outside Bogotá, family-owned coffee farms are connected by footpaths known locally as veredas. We work directly with the growers on those farms — no brokers, no middlemen — which means we can pay them properly and take first pick of each harvest.

We've built relationships with more than eighty farmers across Colombia. Every bag carries the farmer's name, the farm's name and where it is.

Between those veredas and your cup, there's us. We're the Central in Vereda Central.

Common questions

Do you roast your coffee here?

Yes. Kerr Village is our roastery as well as a café, and it's where the coffee for all six of our locations is roasted. The roaster is in the basement, so it isn't open to customers — but the roast date is printed on every bag.

How often do you roast? How fresh is the coffee?

We roast through the week rather than in occasional large batches. Bags on the shelf here were roasted within the last one to five days, and online orders are roasted the previous weekday before shipping. The roast date is on every bag, so you can check rather than take our word for it.

Where does your coffee come from?

Colombia, exclusively. We buy directly from family-owned farms in the mountains outside Bogotá and have worked with more than eighty growers. Every bag lists the farm, the farmer and the region.

Can you grind the beans for me?

Yes, free, and we'll match the grind to how you brew at home. Just tell us what you use.

What's the difference between your light, medium and dark roasts?

It comes down to how long the roast runs and what temperature it finishes at. Lighter roasts show more of the individual farm's character and suit filter and pour over; darker roasts hold up better in milk and iced drinks. Medium is by far our most popular.

Ask at the counter and we'll match one to whatever you're drinking.

Is there parking?

Yes — free customer parking behind the café, with room for about ten cars. Street parking on Kerr is metered, so head round the back first.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes, free for customers with no time limit. The password is on the chalk board on the main floor.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

No, and we'd rather say so plainly. The building is a converted house, there are steps at both the front and back entrances, and our only washroom is on the upper floor. Our Upper Middle café, also in Oakville, has a step-free entrance and accessible washrooms.

Do you have dairy-free options?

Yes — oat, almond, soy, coconut and lactose-free, plus skim.

Do you have decaf?

Yes. Our decaf is the same Colombian sourcing as the rest of the range, available as a drink or as a bag to take home.

Is Vereda Central a chain?

No. We're independently owned by Juan and Laura, who are Colombian, and there are six of us — two in Oakville and four in downtown Toronto. Kerr Village was the first, and it roasts for all of them.
